Mar Ephrem Syriac Patriarchal Scout Troop

In 1960, the idea of scouting activities began at the Syriac School in the Hanania neighborhood of Damascus. The first launch was in 1964 after obtaining the official license from the Presidency of Scouts of Syria under the name "The 21st Group." The work continued with the efforts of the founders, Shahd and Atta Al-Qadi, led by Ghattas Khoury in 1964, Salim Sanouno in 1969, George Saadeh in 1971, and Anton Mardinli in 1983 until 1986, when scouting activities for groups and troops in Syria were halted. However, with the dedication and faith of a group of leaders and under the patronage of His Holiness the late Patriarch Mar Ignatius Jacob III, scouting continued under the name "Mar Ephrem Syriac Scout Musical Band."

Scouting continued under the leadership of Anton Mardinli until 2000, when Raymond Khoury took over the leadership of the group. In 2005, Louay Oussi became the leader, followed by Alaa Oussi in 2009. Raymond Khoury resumed leadership in 2013. On the occasion of the group's 50th anniversary in 2014, with the approval of His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, the group's name was changed to "The Patriarchal Syriac Scout Troop of Mar Ephrem - Damascus."

In 2018, Steve Maleko became the troop leader, followed by Elias Masouh at the beginning of 2021. The troop currently has 512 members and a leadership council consisting of more than 43 leaders. Over the years, the troop has organized more than 31 general camps and over 492 scouting performances, with more than 191 leaders having served. This work continues in the service of the church and the scouting movement.
