The Mar Ephrem Syriac Orthodox Scout group was established on February 22, 1980, under the patronage of the Syriac Orthodox Archdiocese of Aleppo. It is based at the Archdiocesan building affiliated with St. Ephrem the Syrian Cathedral in Sulaymaniyah.
The group follows the global scouting curriculum and joined the Scouts of Syria - Aleppo Commissioner in 2006 under the name "Fifth Troop." It remains an active member to this day.
In 2022, the troop became a member of the Syrian Syriac Scouts Organization and, in 2023, joined the World Syriac Scouts. It is an active participant in both organizations and plays a key role in organizing joint camps and training courses.
After the February 6, 2023 earthquake, scout members renovated and redecorated their headquarters. The newly restored building was reopened on June 14, 2024, during a ceremony that also unveiled the new scout emblem. The event was blessed by His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, and Supreme Head of the Syriac Orthodox Church, with the participation of several bishops, priests, and scout leaders from various provinces.
